Koningsdag (Kingsday)

The celebration of the King's birthday on the 27th of April. A lot of people wear Orange clothes. Orange is the national colour of The Netherlands and refers to the name of the Royal Family (Orange-Nassau). The Royals celebrate this day together with the Dutch people. Every year on Kingsday they visit a different city inThe Netherlands and mix among the people. The Royal visit and celebrations at Kingsday are broadcasted live on Dutch television. The Royals are descendants of founding father William of Orange who ruled the country during the 16th century. The current Royals are King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.
