Dancing around the May Pole

In England there is a day called “May Day”. This day falls on the first Monday in the month of May. On this day there are people who dance around a pole with many coloured ribbons on. Each dancer holds a ribbon as they dance. There are many different dances that people do but all the dances result in the ribbons wrapping around the pole and creating patterns. In primary schools they often practice these dances and perform them. I do not know exactly why we celebrate this but it is an ancient European spring festival. Male dancers usually wear plaid shirts or regular button ups and females wear beautiful spring dresses.
