Efterskole, A Danish boarding school spinoff

Contrary to popular belief from especially cinematic representation, boarding school can be pleasant! In Denmark, many students (14 - 18) take a "gap" year after 9th grade to attend independent residential schools, a danish education concept similar to boarding schools. It involves living in dorms at a school while receiving education (sometimes with a "regular" curriculum, other times exclusively creative and/or athletic subjects - depends on the school). With 264 efterskoler in Denmark, is it considered a major success, and Danish students voluntarily attend. It is also a great way to meet people from the other end of the country, since many select an efterskole far away from home. Furthermore, efterskole is known for being a place where young people go to discover new things about themselves, their values, the world, and to build lifelong friendships.
